Report of Two day Interdisciplinary Conference on “Regional Cinema of India”
This conference has been organized by Hindi Department, K.M.Agrawal College, Kalyan in association with IMPRESS, Govt. of India Ministry of HRD, SPIC MACAY & Himachal Kala Sanskruti Bhasha Academy, Sponsored by ICSSR IMPRESS & Himachal Kala sanskruti Bhasha Academy.
We are all aware that cinema plays an important role in transforming individuals & it has deep impact on human mind. Taking this into consideration with an aim of throwing light on regional cinema and its role in India, this conference has been organized. The objective of this conference was to discuss, encourage the need & importance of regional cinema, as these depicts the realistic picture of diverse regions of Indian society.
The inaugural ceremony of the conference was graced by the presence of –

Principal Dr. Anita Manna welcomed all the delegates & dignitaries. Shri. Ramashankar Tiwariji gave welcome address and briefed about the journey of our college towards silver Jubilee.
Shri Nandkishore Pandeyji Emphasised on the era of regional Cinema, changes in the regional cinema, impact of sahitya on regional cinema. Sir also highlighted that Premchandji’s Novel ‘Godan’ & ‘Gaban’ were very realistic about society that Hindi cinema industry made movies on these novels which had a deep impact on society.
Satyaji Ray, Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Basu Bhattacharya were the pioneers who made films which were mirror of the society.
Prof. Indranil Bhattacharya delivered the keynote address. Sir explained how regional cinema differs from Hindi cinema. Guest of Honour shri. Ramji Tiwari sir expressed that regional cinema is a very effective medium to represent the culture, dialect, rituals traditions and various shades of the particular region.
The post lunch session was messemirising. Recepient of Padmashree Award 2002, Padmabhushan 2017, Grammy Award 1993, Sanjeet Natya Academy Award…. Shri. Vishwamohan Mohan Bhatt performed on Mohan Veena. . We all experienced the magic of music and the audience was spell bound.

Five research papers were presented in this session. Some Topics were jogva, Chattisgarh Cinema, law, gender issues related to regional cinemaetc.

Prof. Satyapal Sharma – Professor, Dept. of Hindi, BHU
Several Research papers were presented on different topics such as Marathi, Sindhi & Tamil cinema, Contribution of Dada Kondke in Marathi cinema, Sindhi actors & directors in Hindi cinema etc.
Why ‘Maherchi sadi’ movie was a block buster. Bollywood film – ‘O baby’ was part of discussion in one of the papers which is remake of south film ‘Miss Granny’.

Transition of Cinema from ‘Harishchandrachi Factory’ to ‘Fandry’.
Deodhar Sir stated that till Indian cinema will be watched, India as a country has its defined image in the world.
Over all in this conference we have witnessed exchange of ideas and expert comments on various shades & colour of regional cinema. Different participants from all parts of the country have presented papers. Papers were presented on the cinema of different regions of India. This conference enriched the knowledge about the regional cinema of India an. Such conventions focus interactions between the participants and encourage the making of cinema with new issues in the society.
Overall 90 research paper from researchers of different parts of the county have been received and 60 participants got an opportunity to present their papers in this conference.
